NIGERIAN PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES: CUT-OFF MARKS, SCHOOL FEES AND EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

In Nigeria, there are sixty eight (68) private universities, forty (40) federal Universities and forty four (44) state universities currently, millions of high school graduate apply yearly to one of these schools but have little or no idea of the cut off marks, school fees, the accommodation and other information about the schools. Like my mentor would say, “To be informed is to be transformed, and to be uniformed is to be deformed”, so this article is to give relevant information of what university applicants are to know about the schools of their choice.

PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERIA

There are so many private universities in Nigeria currently, but those approved by National Universities Commission (NUC) are 61.

COVENANT UNIVERSITY

YEAR STARTED: Covenant University started in the year 2002 (16 years) by the General Overseer of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo and automatically he is the chancellor of the school and the chairman of the Board of Regent.

ADDRESS: 10 Idiroko Road, Canaan Land, located in Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria.

RANKINGS: They have been the best private university in Nigeria for some years now. In the world webometric ranking, only four Nigerian Universities surfaced and Covenant University is one of them with a ranking of 2251, others includes University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria (NNSUKA), Obafemi Awolowo University.

CUT OFF MARKS: The general cut off mark for UTME for Covenant University is 180, but the admission of the candidate is also dependent on the screening in the school which includes the CUSAS exam and the oral interview just immediately after the exams.

SCHOOL FEES: The average school fee for all the departments is N860, 000, although it varies across different department and colleges.

YEAR STARTED: Landmark was also founded by the founder of Covenant University; it was started in March, 2011 by Bishop David Oyedepo.

ADDRESS: Km 4, Ipetu located at Omu Aran, Kwara State, Nigeria.

RANKINGS: Landmark University is the third best private University in Nigeria, and the fourteenth best in Nigeria’s NUC ranking.

CUT OFF MARKS: The cut off mark for Landmark University is 180 for all courses.

SCHOOL FEES: For courses related to Agriculture, the chancellor of Landmark University has approved free education, which means they are given scholarships. For freshers, the average school fess is N600, 000.

YEAR STARTED: The name of the school did not start up as Babcock University Straightaway, it was initially known as the Adventist College of West Africa. It was founded in the year 1959 on the 17th of September by the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

CUT OFF MARK: There is no constant cut off mark for those seeking admission into Babcock University, but those that have a score of 180 in UTME are qualified and eligible or the admission process.

SCHOOL FEES: The average school fee for freshers in Babcock University is N550, 000. It is within that range regardless of your course or departments.

AFE BABALOLA UNIVERSITY (ABUAD)

YEAR STARTED: Afe Babalola University started in the year 2009, founded by Afe Babalola, a Lawyer and a Philanthropist who is currently the chancellor of the University.

ADDRESS: Km 8.5, Afe Babalola Way, PMB 5454, Fajuyi Park, located at Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state, Nigeria.

RANKING: it is ranked as the second best private university in Nigeria. But recently, webometric came out with their ranking showing that Afe Babalola University tops the list above Covenant University.

CUT OFF MARK: The cut off mark for Afe Babalola University is 180.

SCHOOL FEES: The school fees of fresh students of Afe Babalola varies, Law students pay about N1.4 million, Medical Students pays about N1.6 million, Engineering students pays N1.1 million and school of science students pays about N800,000.
