Kemi Adeosun: Full Biography, Family, Early Life, Net worth and Many More


Recently, the minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun resigned from her position due to the allegations against her on having a fake NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) certificate, but she was replaced this morning with a new finance minister, Zainab Ahmed. She sent a letter to the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari this morning on why she had to resign. She started by thanking him for giving her the privilege to serve under him for the period of her service, saying it was a truly rewarding experience for her. She said the claims about her having a fake NYSC certificate came as a big shock to her because it is genuine.
She went further to say that she was born in UK and raised there too, so when she was 34 years old, she was able to finally get her Nigerian Visa and when she came to Nigeria wasn’t sure NYSC applied to her to since she grew up in UK and when she went to their office, she was told that she was exempted from having the privilege to serve due to her initial residency and being that she already passed the age for service. But she was given her certificate from the NYSC office without any doubt that it was genuine. She had been using it in the past. But let us look into her biography.


Kemi was born on the 9th of March, 1967 (51 years Old) in England, United Kingdom and she spent most of her life there till she was 34 years old, then she got her Nigerian visa and moved down to Nigeria, Ogun State. She is the third out of the four children of her parent.


She got married to Niyi Adeosun in the year 1980 and has a couple of children but their lives are not made public. The business of Kemi Adeosun’s husband was the major reason why she came to live in Nigeria, he had businesses in both Great Britain and in Nigeria (Lagos), after some time into his business, and he started spending more time in Nigeria than in UK, so she decided to move in with him in Nigeria.


She had both her primary and secondary school education at London, and then got admission into the University of East London in the year 1986 to study economics where she had her Bachelors degree in economics. She went further to do her Postgraduate studies at the University of London where she studied Financial Management and got her diploma.


Kemi Adeosun is someone who is very resourceful right from when she was in school, here are some of the positions she had held in the past.

  • In 1989, she worked at the British Telecom as an assistant accountant.
  • Just a year after working as an assistant accountant, she got another Job as the senior audit officer at Goodman Jones Company and she worked there for 4 years.
  • In the year 1994, she started working as an internal audit manager at London Underground Limited and she worked there for 2 years.
  • In 1996, she held the same position as the manager of internal audit at Prism consulting.
All those places she worked above were in London. When she moved to Nigeria due to her husband’s business, she worked at;
  • Denham Management in the year 2002 and spent 8 years working there.
  • She became the commissioner of finance by appointment in Ogun state, Nigeria in the year 2010.
  • When President Muhammadu Buhari got into power in 2015, he appointed her as the Minister of finance, a position which was held by Ngozi Okonjo Iweala before her association with World Bank.


She is also a writer, who focuses on financial planning for women
