July 4th: History of America's Independence Day

The United States of America celebrates the 4th of July been their Independence day. here is the history of the Independence day.

In the year, 1776 (244 years ago), during the American Revolution, there was a legal separation of the 13 colonies from Great Britain. These decision was actually made on the 2nd of July, 1776, but was not officially declared till the 4th of July, 1776, which is why it is been celebrated on the 4th.

After the voting for independence occurred, the Congress turned its attention to the official declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson as its principal author.

The debate went on for two days and was later declared on the 4th of July.

A day earlier, John Adams wrote to his wife this message;

"The second day of July 1776 will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more"
